Professor Viola Onwuliri was previously a professor of biochemistry at Federal University of  Technology  Owerri,  (FUTO)  Nigeria  and  the  President  of  the  FUTO  Women Association. She served as deputy Dean for the faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Jos, Nigeria for seven years. She has acted as Dean of the college of Medicine and Head of  the  department of biochemistry  at the  University  of  Jos.  She  was  selected  as  Deputy Governor nominee for Imo State, Nigeria during the 2011 elections.













Key Accomplishments

Professor  Viola  Onwuliri  is  a  global  frontliner  in  the  fight  against  HIV/AIDS  and  has vigorously  pursued  the  campaign  against  the  scourge  of  HIV/AIDS  especially  amongst youths and women. Through her efforts, the Federal University of Technology Owerri has become recognized as a leading institution for Advocacy against the spread of HIV/AIDS in  Nigeria  and  the National  Agency  for  the  Control  of  HIV/AIDS  (NACA)  has  approved the  establishment  of  a  HIV/AIDS  Youth  Friendly  Center  in  FUTO.  She  is  a  pioneer member of the National Women Coalition on AIDS (NAWOCA) and was the only member from the south east appointed in the National Technical Working Committee by the First Lady of Nigeria. As an academic, she has supervised numerous student research projects and has published numerous articles in scientific journals.






















Following  the  resignation  of  the  Minister  of  State,  Education,  Nyesom  Wike.  President Goodluck  Jonathan  has  appointed  Prof.  Viola  Onwuliri  as  the  new  Minister  of  State, Education. Her appointment is in substantive capacity.

Chukwuemeka Onwuliri

Professor Festus Chukwuemeka Onwuliri got his Ph.D at the age of 35years from University of Jos. He has previously had his B.Sc., M.Sc and AIML from   the University of Nigeria Nsukka, University of Jos and Medical Laboratory College Vom, Nigeria respectively. He has acquired a wide range of administrative experience. He was the Head of Department of Plant Science and Technology, University of Jos and is the Director of Victory medical laboratory service, Jos Nigeria.


Professor F. C. Onwuliri has published about 65 papers in both national and international Journals. He has supervised 54 Post Graduate students both at Ph.D and M.Sc levels in the area of Microbiology and Biotechnology. He has also supervised over 150 undergraduate students. He has held several other positions and served in several committees, both ad-hoc and statutory, within the University of Jos and other Universities in Nigeria.

Ex-Minister Prof. Viola Onwuliri’s Son, Chukwuemeka Onwuliri

Engr. Chukwuemeka Osmond Elihe Onwuliri is the son of former Nigerian Foreign Minister, Prof.(Mrs) Viola Onwuliri and Former FUTO University Vice Chancellor, Late Prof. Celestine Onwuliri. He started his career as an engineering undergraduate at University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in 1999 eventually graduating as the school’s valedictorian with a First Class in Engineering before rapidly rising through the ranks in the Oil and Gas industry through nothing but perseverance and hard work.




He later earnt an MBA from the University of Liverpool in the UK. Chukwuemeka has contributed to conference papers such as Record Coiled Tubing Aided Reach and First Real-Time Injection Profiling with Tractor in Extended Reach Well published in 2013, has won several awards like the coveted global Schlumberger Excellence-in-Action Award in 2010 for a new technology execution for Saudi Aramco and has received written commendations from Exxon Mobil, Shell, ENI and Chevron for his excellent wo…
